A day in the life of Sarah's Citro Rewards

Busy life, smart savings. Sarah pocketed nearly $200 in one day, just by using Citro Rewards.
By Bron Maxabella
Meet Sarah. She’s 47, a mum of two teenagers (14 and 17 – enough said), and works part-time as a medical receptionist three days a week. The other two weekdays? That’s when she catches up on laundry, life admin and visits her much-loved grandmother at the nursing home on Fridays.
Weekends are all go. The whole family is big on watersports, hiking and camping – and this week, Sarah’s in full camping trip-planning mode. Think: tents, supplies, snacks, more snacks and coordinating everyone’s availability (which is harder than it sounds).
Sarah’s an active Citro Rewards member. She joined after reading about how cashback could make her weekly spend work harder. Now she uses her Citro Rewards account to pay for everything from groceries to gear for the next trip – and she’s racking up real savings that she’s setting aside for a holiday to Vietnam next year.
Okay, so at this point I need to tell you that Sarah is actually a character I made up based on many of our Citro customers. Sorry, but fictitious Sarah is the quickest way to introduce you to a ‘typical’ Citro Rewards member. I want to show you how easy it is to use your Citro Rewards each day to buy what you need and put real money back into your pocket.
Want to see how it works? Here’s how Sarah spent her Friday – and how her Citro Rewards put dollars back in her day.
Morning
The dog’s ‘autoship’ kibble and flea and tick tablets arrive from Petstock with the morning post (5% cashback = $11.93)
After the school run, she pops online to put in a Chemist Warehouse ‘Click and Collect’ order for prescriptions for the kids and her grandmother (1% cashback = $2.50) – and, yeah, she might have bought herself a few extras, but they were on sale!
Does the same at Coles Online for a top-up shop for the weekend camping trip (0.50% cashback = $1.24)
She heads into her favourite cafe for a cuppa and a muffin while she waits for her Click and Collect orders to be ready. The cashback she earned this morning basically pays for her order.
Morning cashback = $15.67
Lunchtime
Has lunch with her grandmother, delivered via UberEats (she's a first time user, so she gets $10 cashback = $10), and books Village Cinemas movie tickets for the kids for the weekend using Movie Vouchers (20% cashback = $28)
Once home, she restocks the family’s camping equipment: new gazebo, sleeping mat and lanterns from OzTrail (3% cashback = $13.74)
While she’s at it, she browses Big W for new thick socks and a couple of hoodies for her son, who’s just realised it’s going to be “cold at night” (2.63% cashback = $2.18)
Lunchtime cashback = $43.92
Cashback so far = $59.59
Afternoon
Tops up the family’s phone credits using a Prepaid SIMs from Optus (6% cashback = $6.30)
Starts shopping for her daughter’s upcoming birthday – her teen has provided a comprehensive list (of course), which sees her buying from Temu for the first time. Naturally she adds a few things for herself (28% cashback for first time customers = $89.60)
She heads to the gym in her new LSKD outfit (7% cashback for new customers = $11.03)
Afternoon cashback = $106.93
Cashback so far = $166.52
Evening
Home a bit late from the gym, she orders Thai for the family from Menulog (5% cashback = $5.62)
After dinner she sits down to finalise the family’s camping holiday – she books 3 nights ensuite camping accommodation via Booking.com (3% cashback = $9.15)
Grabs new Odyssey hiking boots for herself from Mountain Warehouse(3% cashback = $10.30)
And before logging off, she buys a birthday present for her niece from Myer (2.84% cashback = $3.75)
Evening cashback = $28.82
Total cashback earned for the day = $195.34
Okay, she didn’t hit Joanne’s high score, but Sarah also didn’t spend hours scouring the internet for discount codes or waiting for sales. She just lived her regular day – did the groceries, sorted the camping holiday, picked up a few bits for the family and saved $195.
And that’s just one day. Most days she’s getting a little something back, whether it’s groceries, pet supplies, pharmacy runs, holidays, online shopping or treating the kids. Every dollar adds up and Sarah’s using her cashback to fund future family fun (and maybe a solo spa weekend – she’s still working that through with the teens).
